Beggars and Belief

Tiles lean in
and remonstrate;
against wet concrete,
they delineate

and crack at noise,
loud and soft,
from girls and boys;
from in the loft.

The ground oft tread
to get away:
planes play, perturbed;
wet metal, grey.

This ceramic dream
is shredded, torn;
we fall apart,
hands clasped and worn.
