To This End, We May Fight

Run, she said
An imperative that groaned
As the branches overhead
The ground soaked each
Painstaking morsel of crying cloud
And we just ate it up
Too late
Too straight these tree-stacked lanes
That weep their crisp clothes
Come, she said
To a new place that is
Paved in gold, untold
This is where we become human
In each bucket that accepts the rain
I’m each morsel that weeps organic pain
Imperative, to groan
These are the wheels that run
And run to a new place
Wait, she said
And I waited
And I waited
And still the moon ticked
Its bold face a clock for the ages
And these paves are everlasting
