Trite Romance

Sea air calms you
and the ringing of the waves
lights up a smile
when I’m not looking.
Sand in white piles
of mess with shells and sticks;
debris of life
on which we stumble.
Energy caught
in a burst of fitting salt
that dries my mouth
though our skin glistens.
Deep, elegant,
we wade and we pray with tears
that are just ours.
The hours fade like the moon.
