Water Running Somewhere

a country estate
where we hold hands
and the people laugh
in syrup
in rags
in fags
the greenery runs for a million miles
draws us in deeper
to clandestine depths and boundaries
we want to feel the wet grass between our toes
so we run
run away from the words
the clink of glass
the fired buckets
we are lost
at once the dark is with us
our smiles are rigid
we play and we play
children lost to the sound of chanting wind
water running somewhere
placates us
forever we will be children
forever we will be dancing under the moon
cast clay and wax
hidden in a wildness that embraces us
as we embrace
one another
entombed in an idyll
as though it were everything
as though it were fired in
our own sweet furnace
