Black King, White Heart

Enamelled, walled, gated,
A chest thump, elated,
Port-side shaken, we stir.

More gurgled echoes,
of holed walls falling,
In nicotine-brown, sun-dappled, candour.

Recorded birdsong
Slaps ancient walls;
The deterrence certain calls.

Abraham’s exuberence
Within sight, beyond mind,
We walk on tiles of ages.

Offshore coastline;
Boasting, puritan.
Air screeching, waters seething.

Tumble like weeds,
Inlets of shuddering bracken,
Waiver on wanton rolling hills.

“Je suis un pintor”
Abstain of fact
Pride firmly in tact.
